After 22 Years, Sammich Slows Down

Hey all…

We’ve been sitting on this for a few weeks now, but wanted to let you all on some plans we have for 2020. First, let’s just consider what a crazy long time 22 years is to do what we do…if you’d have asked any of us all those years ago (especially at some of those crazy 4am nights in downtown Peoria) if we thought we would still be playing in this band as we headed into (and beyond) our 50’s – we probably would have laughed at you. Now, here we are – with grown kids who weren’t even born yet when we were formulating our plot to bring funk and good times to Central Illinois.

It’s been a wild, eventful and always memorable 22 years – but, it is time to slow down.

While this doesn’t mean the end of JammSammich, it does mean that 2020 will mark a very abbreviated schedule for the band – with a focus on special events and audience-favorite venues. Our hopes are to scale back to about one show a month through the year (with the option of picking up a few cool gigs here and there if they tickle our fancy). Our hopes are that with this limited schedule, each show will be a special chance for us to hang out with friends and fans – and really build up the excitement for each time we appear in public and truly make those appearances “CAN’T MISS” events – for us AND our audiences. We also hope to spend more time learning fun new tunes – and maybe even getting some original music recorded. Each member of the band has plans for staying busy and playing music – we’ll be sure to keep you up to speed on what all the guys are doing with other projects.

To be quite honest – we all just felt like “it was time” to put the brakes on a little. It certainly wasn’t based on waning crowds, boredom or any kind of inner-band strife. We’re busier than ever, we truly love playing – and we’re more of a family than a band. Just thought it would be good for the soul to free up some weekends and say “yes” more to our families than we do to our clients. And we LOVE our clients!

Please feel free to contact us if you have any special events lined up for 2020 as our calendar will fill up fast!

Thank you to all of the venues, events and clients who have kept us constantly busy for 22 years – pretty much every weekend, to all of the fine musicians and sound and lighting production companies who have helped us keep the GrooveQuake rolling through the years – and especially to YOU…the fans who have stuck by us, supported us, entertained us and really made this journey amazing. There are no words to express how grateful we are for you – it has been a joy spending the weekends with you! Quite simply – we love your guts!

Sincerely – Mike, Doug, Brian, George, Bill and Steve – JAMMSAMMICH

Thank You!

Speechless. It is with honor and humility that we say "THANKS" to everyone who voted for us – and especially to those who have supported us over this amazing 20 year voyage. Being called the "Best" at anything is always a subjective statement – there are certainly more accomplished musicians and MANY deserving local artists – especially those creating their own original work. But, our goal has always been simple: have fun every time we get together, connect with people and give back when we can. And this is justification that it's working! Please stay tuned for a VERY special announcement regarding our plans for celebrating this honor in a way that truly gives back! We think you'll like it!
Again, thank you! This means the world to us!

Be sure to check out the rest of the Winners of this year's voting. We are in amazing company!

Vote for Peoria’s Best!

vote Sammich.001

Woke up to good news – JammSammich has made it to the Final Three in voting for the “Best Performing Artist” category of Peoria Magazines Annual “Best of Peoria” Readers’ Choice Awards. It means a lot because the finalists were chosen by the public. It’s a been a while since we were nominated for an award – an though, it’s not why we love to play – it certainly makes us feel great! Voting runs through June and the winners will be announced in July. In an odd twist, we are squaring off in voting against, The Corn Wolves – the acoustic band featuring Sammich boys Brian Carroll and Bill Trulove. Healthy competition is a good thing, though, right? We’ll see how this turns out…

Winery Season Ends With Record-Breaking Turnout

Some nights everything just comes together and makes for  perfect night…

September 3rd, Sammich took the stage for one final night this season on the lawn at one of the most beautiful venues in Central Illinois – if not the entire State. Getting a helping hand from Mother Nature in the form of unseasonably mild temperatures and, what seemed like, a never-ending stream of birthdays, engagements, bachelorettes and engagements, it was clear that the band and venue were in for a special night when the lawn virtually filled up before Sammich hit the stage.

What ensued was a non-stop dance party for the next 4 hours, the dance floor literally packed from the stage all the way back up the hillside.

A lot of factors have come together to make Mackinaw Valley Vineyard a favorite venue for Sammich fans. It’s vast with lots of room to stretch out. The “bring-your-own-eats” policy has inspired some truly special picnic experiences and…that wine. MVV has a flavor for every taste from sparkling and sweet to dry and complex – and they sell amazing quantities of it on nights like September 3rd. Most importantly is the natural beauty of the venue, from the view of the pond beyond the bandstand, the healthy grapevines – and the breathtaking skycap, unspoiled by city lights.

“From a playing standpoint, there’s no other place like it around. The crowd is RIGHT on top of the band, interacting, singing every word – and you look out and just can’t see the end of the crowd. Just people bouncing up and down, arms up – It’s just impossible to not have a blast,” says Brian Carroll regarding the view from behind the mic.

When all was said and done, new attendance records were set and an incredibly memorable night was in the books.

Watch for 3 Mackinaw Valley Vineyard dates for Summer of 2017 to be announced later this month.

13653318_10157336656905220_6814588168607775805_oJammSammich prepares to close out another Taste of Peoria on the CEFCU Center Stage, Wednesday, August 10th. Say what you will about one of Peoria’s longest running and most well-attended events: it’s always a little different – and always fun.

As a frequent guest of PACE, Sammich has played in no less than 4 different locations. In the early years, the streets of Downtown Peoria would be shut down and massive crowds would gather on Jefferson Street. Eventually, it was decided to move the festival to Peoria’s Riverfront to allow it to spread out – and last year, the band found itself sharing twin stages of continuous music in Festival Park – on account of flooding at the Landing.

For the uninitiated, the premise is simple – you buy “Taste Bucks” that can be redeemed for sample-sized servings of some of the area’s best restaurant fare. Ribs, sandwiches, desserts, pizza, wings – just about anything you can dream up can be found. Still looking for something to top the chocolate covered bacon we discovered a couple of years back…

Taste has also always been about music – party music. While other local fests boast eclectic lineups and varied genres, Taste has always seemed to be geared toward maximum fun – lots of pop, Top 40, rock and country bands and artists. This year, Sammich splits duties with Peoria favorites Brian Dennison, Coco Loc0 and Wolf and Gypsy – as well as newcomers to the fest like House Cat and Stone and Snow.

For the second year in a row – one member of the Sammich is out for the gig (last year, bass legend Dave Plunk sat in). This year, Mike Mercer is out for the night and uber-talented rocker, Michael Layne (Michael Layne Band) steps on lead – promising a slightly more rocking setlist than usual – and a few cool surprises.

Sammich takes the stage at 9pm at the Landing. Get there early and allow time to stand in line for the great eats.

Sammich Beach Bash a Big Hit

Perfect weather, killer Beach Party decor and our biggest gate ever on the Peoria Riverfront. It was a historic night for Sammich. From the full-size palm trees that flanked the the stage, the undulating hula dancers and the occasional stray beach ball – there was no mistake that the beach theme was in full effect on July 9th at the CEFCU Center Stage at the Riverfront. LOUIE LOUIE: A Sammich Tradition

JammSammich has always believed in giving back. That’s why this year, we mark a decade of performances at one of Peoria’s longest running and favorite festivals, the Louie Louie RiverJam. The event caps off one of Peoria’s craziest parades (kazoos, business folk in boxer shorts, pink flamingoes – and that song…played on a wide variety of exotic instruments) and marks the traditional kickoff of Peoria’s Summer.

Besides the huge crowds and party atmosphere Louie Louie promises, we look forward, every year, to the opportunity to donate our time to help raise money for our favorite cause, St Jude Children’s Research Hospital. Along with the Illinois Valley Striders and AMP Media and a small army of volunteers – the event (always held the final Friday of May) donates its proceeds to St Jude to assist with research for cures for childhood illness and the rising cost of caring for St Jude kids.

This year’s parade starts at 3:30 – followed by the RiverJam at 5pm. Sammich is joined by Three and a Half Men kicking off the fun and this year’s exciting closing act, Dexter O’Neal and Funkyard. Weather permitting, it should be a fun night!
